Anita C Holzman, 78, passed away Saturday morning at the Jewish Home in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Victor A Holzman. She was born in Boston Mass on April 26, 1935 daughter of the late Leo and Louisa Cerro Bedia.

Anita was a devoted military wife supporting her husband in his long Navy career. She was a very loving mother and proud of her three children and grandchildren. She was a talented oil painter and also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, arts and crafts reading and word games. She loved to bake and share her goodies with her friends and family. She was a devout Lutheran and belonged to Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton where she served as Treasurer for the ladies guild, and was active within the church.

Surviving are a daughter: Adella Decker and husband Frank, Avoca, Pa.; (2) sons: Leo and his wife Peggy, Elmhurst, Pa and their family; Paul and his wife Marie, Throop, Pa.; (2) grandsons: Derek Decker, Paul Holzman Jr. A sister Lucy Shivak, CA. Numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister; Evelyn Holmes and brother in law, Frank Shivak.

Tuesday at 10:00 in Peace Lutheran Church, 2506 North Main Avenue, Scranton with Rev. Kristen Bjornstad officiating.

Marie H. Zoll, 93, of Dunmore, PA died Thursday evening in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger-CMC in Scranton following an illness. Born November 5, 1919 in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Mary (Ford) Zoll.

Marie was educated in New Jersey and was employed in the garment Industry prior to her retirement. She was a former member of St. Thomas More Church in Lake Ariel, PA. Marie enjoyed Bingo, trips to Atlantic City, knitting and watching Catholic television.

Surviving are her nephews: Donald Colwell of Dunmore with whom she resided, Patrick Colwell and wife Virginia of Clarks Summit, PA, Michael Colwell and wife Shirley of Covington Twp. PA, Ronald Colwell and wife Suzanne of Coco Beach, FL, Joseph Colwell and wife Susan of Marietta, GA; and niece: Susan Freeborne of Scranton, PA; and many additional nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by (2) sisters: Cordelia, and Dorothy; and (3) brothers: Richard, Henry and Thomas.

Joseph J. Swider, 91, of Scranton and formerly of S. Plainfield, New Jersey died Thursday morning in Regional Hospital of Scranton following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances (Galliano) Swider on August 8, 1993. Born May 4, 1922, in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Swider.

Joseph was a US Army veteran in the Pacific serving during World War II. He obtained the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and a Bronze Star, and was serving in Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack on Hawaii. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivor's Association and was of Roman Catholic faith. Prior to his retirement he was self employed as a general contractor in New Jersey. Joseph had a great love for his adopted city of Scranton.

Joseph's family would like to express their thanks to all of his health care professionals, especially Dr. Ferdinand Manahan.

Surviving are (2) sons: Joseph A. Swider and companion Linda Barto of Bridgewater, NJ, and Michael J. Swider and wife Elizabeth of Milford, PA; Two beloved grandsons: James Swider and Luke Swider.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Estelle Swider and his brother, Edward Swider.

Frank J. Baldoni, 51, of Scranton died Monday. His wife of 22 years is Barbara Goscinski-Baldoni. Born February 22, 1962 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Joseph and Eleoner (Smith) Baldoni.

Frank was educated in the Scranton schools, and had been employed in the Recycling business for many years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son: Frank J. Baldoni Jr. and wife Megan of Pittston, PA; daughters: Halicia, Tracey and Amber Baldoni of Scranton, PA; and Jamie Towers Baldoni of Scranton, PA; brothers: Robert, Patrick, and Joseph Baldoni; and sisters: Julia Lee, Barbara Stefani, Michelle Croghan, Tina Baldoni, Mary Searfoss and Penny Duplessis and three step-sons: Kenny, Kris and Derrick Lake; (7) grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister: Ebe Santos.

Frank was an avid collector of model trains, cars and sport cards of all sorts. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

John Van Dyke, 83, of Madison Twp. PA and formerly of New Jersey died Sunday June 9th, 2013 in Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. His wife is the former Roseanna Marion. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage on January 10, 2013. Born September 24, 1929 in Bloomingdale, NJ, he is the son of the late Stanley and Lillian (Rodda) Van Dyke.

Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed by Resisto-Flex Corporation of Roseland, NJ and Tracer Tool, Inc. of Oakland, NJ as a Tool and Dye Technician. John was a former member of Butler United Methodist Church in Butler, NJ and attended Moscow United Methodist Church in Moscow, PA.

Surviving in addition to his wife are (1) daughter: Linda S. Van Dyke of North Haledon, NJ; (2) sons: Gary J. Van Dyke and wife Linea of Ramsey, NJ, and Randal K. Van Dyke of Deltona, FL; (1) brother: Preston Van Dyke of Pompton Lakes, NJ, and (1) sister: Barbara Utter of West Milford, NJ; and (3) grandchildren: Amanda, Kyle and Briana; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by (5) sisters: Lillian Degroat, Marion Hansen, Georgianna Decker, Constance Bowen and Marge Sisco.

A memorial service will be conducted: Saturday, August 3, at 1 p.m. at Moscow United Methodist Church, 126 Church Street, Moscow, PA.

Entombment will be conducted in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, NJ.

Harry C. Rogal, 91, a resident of the Waterford since 2008 and longtime resident of Palm Beach Gardens, passed away on May 22, 2013. born on december 25, 1921 in williamsport, PA , he grew up in the Scranton area.

Harry served in the US Army Air Corp, 9th Division, 368th Fighter Group during WWII. He demonstrated exceptional bravery in action with his fighter group and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for D-Day missions. In a letter from the Adjutant General of the war department dated October 3, 1945, it is stated that under extremely hazardous conditions with his fighter group, Lt. Rogal bravely dive bombed and strafed a hostile strongpoint successfully enabling US troops to advance into Germany immediately. Lt. Rogal also dive bombed a German supply train in advance of the D-Day invasion, cutting off German supplies enabling D-Day to go forward.

Harry was a corporate pilot for the remainder of his career. After retirement in January of 1990, he was Paul Newman's private pilot. Harry was a kind, supportive, and generous man who had a tremendous zest for life. Harry's wife, Ruth, preceded him in death in 2008. Prior to her death, they lived in Palm Beach County where Harry was very active in his community and often served as an usher at the Nativity Lutheran Church.

Harry will be missed by his two daughters, Barbara R. Jahansozzi and husband Iraj of Clifton, VA; Janet Lynn Rogal of Fairport, NY; Grandchildren Amanda Eddy and husband Dave, Christine Sahliyeh; his brother Theodore Rogal who was born New Years Day, 1922. Harry was predeceased by his youngest brother Robert F. Rogal.

Beverly L. Kramer of Elmhurst Twp. died Monday at Geisinger-CMC in Scranton. Born in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Albert E. and Roseann Lewis.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Secretary-Bookeeper with several local companies. Beverly was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elmhurst.

Surviving are (2) sons: Warren Kramer Jr. and wife Robin of Elmhurst Twp., and L. Scott Kramer and wife Glenda of Elmhurst Twp.; (8) grandchildren: Warren Kramer III, Mary Kramer, Abby Norton, Heather O'Connor, Mark Kramer, Christopher Kramer, Peggy Kramer and Kimberly Kramer; and (7) great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Albert Lewis and her sister Emily Lewis Nicosie.

Gerald A. Seminara, 86, of Scranton and formerly of Linden, NJ died Saturday at his home following an illness. His wife Ninfa "Fay" Scandariato Seminara died in 1998. Born May 5, 1927 in New York, NY, he is the son of the late Salvatore and Mary (Messina) Seminara.

Gerald was educated in the New York City schools and was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a foreman with Miller – Northern Printing Company in the New Jersey division. He was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Surviving are his daughter, Donna M. LaRosa and husband Steven of Clifton Twp. PA; and his son, Thomas G. Seminara and wife Linda of Linden, NJ; (3) grandchildren: Matthew, Nicholas and Beth.

He was preceded in death by (3 sisters: Frances Diaz, Josephine Angelo and Antoinette Diaz; and a brother Philip Castro.

Jack L. Tully, 64, of Scranton died Saturday at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA following an illness. His wife is the former Cynthia L. Goodfield. The couple would have celebrated 30 years of marriage on July 5th. Born March 2, 1949 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Jack and Edith (Edwards) Tully.

Jack was a US Air Force veteran serving from 1968 till 1971. Prior to his retirement he was employed as warehouse supply worker and had been employed as a Master Printer with Panel Print, Inc. of Scranton. Jack was a member of the Tauras Club of Scranton and VFW Post 25 of Scranton. He is a former member of the Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are (2) sons: Jack L. Tully Jr. and wife Kimberly of Blakely, PA, Ryan R. Tully of Scranton, PA; (1) brother: Ronald Tully and wife Marilyn of Dunmore, PA; (1) grandson Shane Tully; and brother-In-Law Edmund C. Ann Cochrane, 89, of Scranton died on Friday evening at the home of her daughter, following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Hugh Cochrane. Born November 8, 1923 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Jenkins)Williams.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Scranton School District in the Maintenance department. Ann was loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family was the light of her life. She will be remembered for her wit, her kindness, and her love of the New York Yankees.

Ann's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Home Health Care Professional s and Hospice for their exceptional care, and also Dr. Kurt Moran for his wonderful and dedicated service.

Marlene K. Muscosky, 78, of Roaring Brook Township died Thursday evening at St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home where she was a guest. Her husband is William S. Muscosky. The couple were married June 17, 1961.

Born July 27, 1934 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Ervin and Pauline (Fabri) Hoffman. She was a 1952 graduate of Scranton Central High School.

Prior to her retirement she was employed by First Liberty Bank and Trust in Daleville, PA. Marlene also enjoyed a long career with Northeastern / PNC Bank as a bank teller. She was a member of Hickory Street Presbyterian Church in Scranton, and was a past president of the Moscow Women's Club.

Surviving in addition to her husband is her son Glenn W. Muscosky and wife Heather Mee of New York, NY; her sister Marilyn Toy of Covington Twp. PA; (2) grandchildren: Eric and Lila Muscosky of New York, NY

Joshua S. "Josh" Groves, 27, of East Stroudsburg and formerly of Moscow died Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born May 4, 1986 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of Gerald F. Groves of Madison Township and Janet A. (O'Neill) Groves of Scranton.

Josh is a 2005 graduate of North Pocono High School and attended Daniel Webster College in Nashua, New Hampshire. He was employed by Fed-Ex Freight of Pocono Summit, PA

Josh was an avid auto enthusiast and enjoyed working on cars. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and will remain forever in their hearts.

Albert L. Gibbs, 76, of Scranton died Saturday afternoon in Hospice Community Care in Dunmore following an illness. His wife is the former Sandra E. Murray. The couple were married June 13, 1992. Born November 10, 1936 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Louis Harrington Gibbs and Vivian (Jones) Gibbs Dickson.

Albert was a US Marine and a life long member of the Marine Corp League. Prior to his retirement, Albert was employed as a supervisor with Hawk Oil Company. He was a member of the Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church in Scranton. He was an avid Hunter and Fisherman and was a member of the Tunkhannock Beagle Club. Albert was a PIAA baseball umpire for many years.

Jack Giles, 71, of Clifton Twp. died Friday morning in St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home following an illness. Born March 18, 1942 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Willard and Elizabeth (Ammerman) Giles.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Grassie & Sons, Inc. and had been employed as a truck driver for many years. He was a member of the Moscow United Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed gardening, following NASCAR, and his favorite driver Tony Stewart. He also enjoyed spending time with his Chihuahua "Buddy".

Surviving are (3) daughters: Sheri Tovcimak of Duncannon, PA, Terri A. O'Connell and companion David Fritz of Thornhurst, PA, and Jacqueline Dillersberger and husband Andy of Homosassa, FL; (1) son: Dwayne J. Giles and wife Brenda of Thornhurst, PA; (10) grandchildren; and (4) great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by (2) brothers: Willard Giles and Edward Giles; and (3) sisters: Ruth Wilbur, Grace Perry and Mary Jane Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his grandson Dwayne John Giles.

Robert P. Williams, 79, of Scranton died Monday afternoon at VNA Hospice at Geisinger CMC in Scranton following a lengthy illness. His wife, the former Carolyn Kayler, died May 30, 2008. Born March 29, 1934 in Kingston, PA, he is the son of the late Charles F. and Catherine (Carpenter) Williams.

Robert was a US Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War from 1951 till 1954. Prior to his retirement he was employed in Security and worked in transportation as a cab driver.

Surviving are (3) daughters: Donna Spegar and husband Michael of Blakely, PA, Sherry Williams of Hazleton, PA, Laurie Williams of Scranton, PA; (4) sons: Glenn Williams of Columbia, SC, Robert Williams of Jefferson, GA, Bruce Williams of Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Mark Williams of Elmira, NY; (1) brother: Charles Williams of Scranton, PA; and many grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Mary Williams.

Diane Armbruster, 52, of Scranton died Friday evening at Commonwealth Hospice in Scranton following a lengthy illness. She was born May 23, 1960. She is the daughter of the late Richard and Mildred (Lewis) Gowe. She is the wife of Charles A. Armbruster. The couple was married August 24, 1990.

Diane was formerly employed by C. H. Reed Industrial Supplies as Operations Manager and was formerly the owner of Richie's Playhouse in Scranton.

Diane was a loving wife, mother and friend to many. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, especially her dear friends at the Shore Forest Campground in Hop Bottom, PA. She was was an avid camper and had a special love for children and animals.

Diane's family would like to thank Dr. Lisa Thomas and the entire staff at Northeast Hematology/Oncology Associates in Dunmore for their exceptional care. They would also like to thank Dr. Kenneth Gentilezza for his wonderful care and guidance over the years. The family would like to thank Diane's friends who have supported her with prayers and many acts of kindness during her illness.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters; Chelsea A. Armbruster of Scranton, PA and Alysia L. Armbruster of Scranton, PA; and many beloved neices and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her nephew Richard Siebecker in 2000.

James D. Steinle, 82, of Dunmore and formerly of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died Monday evening in Regional Hospice of Scranton following an illness. His wife of 57 years is the former Barbara A. Teets. Born September 6, 1930 in Scranton, he is the son of the late Carl F. and Marian (MacMillan) Steinle.

James was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 35 years at A T & T . He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Scranton, and was a faithful volunteer and doorkeeper at the church for many years. He was a member of the Green Lodge # 597 and the American Legion post # 908 of Scranton.

James will be remembered for his love of his family, and his good hearted nature. He has many friends who will miss his smile and his generous heart. His family would like to thank everyone who has touched his life in many ways.

Raymond Joseph Denault,Sr., 94 years young, of Daleville, PA, formerly of Thornhurst, PA, passed away on May 11, 2013. He was the husband of Chyleen Carey Denault, and the late Rosalie (Lee) Grab Denault.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on March 3, 1919, he was the son of the late Aiken and Blanche Broulliard Denault. He was a 1938 graduate of Rindge Technical High School, where he studied journalism. He was employed as a printer with the Scranton Tribune and later with the Catholic Light Newspaper, from which he retired.

He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, where he served as crew chief and later a flight engineer with the AAF Tactical Air Command, 1st Air Force with the rank of Sergeant.

Ray was an extremely active community volunteer and served as: Member and Past President, North Pocono Board of Education; Member and Past Chairman, North Pocono Joint School Authority; Secretary-Treasurer, Thornhurst Township; Secretary, Thornhurst Township Planning Commission; Member, North Pocono Planning Commission; Member, North Pocono Council of Governments; and Charter Member of the Thornhurst Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co. He was a member of the Catholic faith.

Ray is survived by his wife, Chyleen Carey Denault, of Daleville, and seven children by his first marriage: a son, Raymond Denault, Jr., and wife Linda, Clarks Summit, PA, and six daughters: Patricia Wincek and husband Leonard, Thornhurst, PA; Therese Erk and husband Russell, Phoenixville, PA; Pamela McCusker and husband Mark, Hanover, PA; Constance Sanko and husband John, Moscow, PA; Kimberly Kerrick and husband Howard, Blakeslee, PA; and Christine Carroll and husband Kenneth, Thornhurst, PA. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Jeannette Wright, Peoria, AZ, 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was predeceased by his first wife, Rosalie (Lee) Grab Denault, in 1987, and their son, Christopher, in 1970. Also, two brothers, Roland of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Milton of Silver Spring, Maryland; and two sisters, Cecile Mazza of Belmont, Massachusetts, and Marguerite Phelps of Merritt Island, Florida.

He touched many people's lives and will be remembered for his quick-witted sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Victoria S. Gudaitis, 69 of Peckville died Saturday evening in Mid Valley Hospital in Peckville after a brief illness. She is the widow of Charles A. Gudaitis Sr. Born August 14, 1943 in Clarks Summit, PA, she is the daughter of the late Otis and Jeanette (Clark) Gavitt.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are (1) son: Charles A. Gudaitis Jr. and companion Suzanne Ditchkus of Dickson City, PA; (2) daughters: Michelle R. Barnhisel of Dalton, PA, and Christal M. Gudaitis of Scranton, PA; (1) brother: Alan Gavitt and wife Mary of Port Richie, FL; (2) sisters: Helen Owens of Scranton, PA, and Barbara Donovon of Clarks Summit, PA; (7) grandchildren: Charles A. Otis F. Smith, affectionately called "Stub", "Grandpa" and "Pepa", was carried by the angels into the arms of Jesus on Friday, May 3rd, surrounded by his adoring family. His grandson said God was going to make him an "Angel Farmer". His loving wife of 46 years is the former Mary Ann Havenstrite.

Otis was born in Hollisterville and was the proud son of Otis L. and Fannie Maddox Smith. He was a member of the Hollisterville Baptist Church and a friend to the Daleville United Methodist Church. He received an honorary diploma from Central High School for enlisting in the Navy at the age of 17 to serve in WWII. He served on the USS Barnegat and USS Bausell. He was a Radioman Third Class USNR and received the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Pacific Theater Ribbon and European Theater Ribbon.

After returning from war, Otis earned his Bachelors degree from the University of Scranton and became a self-employed insurance agent and tax accountant in the Moscow area for over 45 years.

Otis was an avid gardner and spent most of his time outdoors. He was a "do-it-yourself" man and was willing to lend a helping hand (or paintbrush) whenever and wherever he might be needed.

He was a man a few words and led by example. His endearing mother said that he had the "patience of Job". His most prized possession was his family, who he loved unconditionally and gave unselfishly. Without speaking a single word, his final acts on this earth left his family a thousand examples of strength, courage and love to live by. He will be dearly missed and reverently remembered. "Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age but they die young".

The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the extraordinary care and compassion that they showed to Otis and the family. Truly remarkable. Ruth Lowe Lucker, 92, a resident at Abington Manor in S. Abington Twp. died Friday morning. She was the widow of Gordon H. Lucker who died January 31, 2006. Ruth was born in Scranton, and grew up in Hyde Park and lived her adult life in Dunmore. She was the daughter of the late George Lowe and Rose (Reed) Lowe Lloyd. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School . Following graduation she worked at the Scranton Lace Company as a secretary. After marrying she devoted her time providing a good home for her family. During this time she pursued sewing and volunteering.

She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of Dunmore where she served as an elder, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was active in the Women's Association. As an elder she occasionally held the office of the clerk of the session. While participating in the Women's Association she held positions of leadership from leader to president. She was also active in the Lackawanna Presbytery committees. In the late 1970's she was elected to the position of Stated Clerk, which she held for thirteen years. During this time she was hired to be secretary for the Presbytery Office. Throughout her life she was faithful to the church and served in whatever capacity she was asked.

Ruth was very active with the Scranton-Pocono Girl Scout Council. She began volunteering as a troop leader, and volunteered to be a group leader for the day camp programs. She served as a director of the Girl Scout council, holding several leadership positions, including president of the council. Because of her commitment to Girl Scouting, her daughters participated throughout their growing up years.

After retirement, she joined the Century Club where she enjoyed playing bridge. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, playing bridge and pinochle. She and her husband enjoyed trips to Maine and bird watching trips. She was a faithful wife, and was proud of her children and grandchildren.

Ruth's family would like to thank Elmcroft of Mid Valley, Abington Manor and Asera Care Hospice for their compassionate care they provided over the years.

Scott David Phillips, 47, of Dunedin, Florida died suddenly at his home on Friday, April 26, 2013. Scott is the son of John and Catherine Phillips of Rockaway, New Jersey.

Scott grew up in Rockaway and was a 1984 graduate of Morris Hill High School. As a child and adult Scott loved fishing, hunting, auto racing and enjoying the outdoors.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters: Kimberly Phillips, and Carrie Simunov and husband Steven; and a niece: Cameron Simunov.

Frederick J. Harney, 95, of Scranton, and formerly of Honesdale for over 45 years died peacefully in his sleep at his home. He was the husband of Ruth (Owens) Harney who died February 19, 1988. Born December 21, 1917 in Pottsville, PA, he was the son of the late Leonard A., Sr. and Minnie (John) Harney.

Fred was a proud veteran of World War II, serving three years as a Staff Sargeant in the Finance Disbursing Section, in the African – European Theatre of War.

Fred was a 1934 graduate of Pottsville High School. He attended Business school after graduation and was an office manager and sales representative for the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) for 35 years. Following his retirement, he continued to work until age 85 at various jobs in Honesdale. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, and was a dedicated Phillies fan.

Fred is survived by his daughter Virginia Harney Turano, with whom he resided; (2) granddaughters: Jennifer Ruth Korinchak and husband Nathan of Vienna, VA, and Attorney Rebecca Jean Turano of Brooklyn, NY; (1) grandson: Frederick Randall Turano of Scranton; and a great-grandson: Caleb Frederick Korinchak; and a sister: Elizabeth Kibler of Jackson, MO; and nieces and nephews.

James K. Allspaugh, 65, formerly of 215 Arthur Ave., Scranton, passed away on April 15 in Lincoln, Massachusetts where he resided.

Jim was a beloved faculty member of The Fayerweather Street School, Cambridge, MA for more than 30 years and after learning of his death, the school took a day off to celebrate his life and achievements. A memory board has been created and a special garden and bench are planned to commemorate the impact he had on the school and the hundreds of first and second grade students he taught.

Jim had a longtime passion for art and photography and spent many summers sketching and painting on Monhegan Island, ME where he became part of the island's folklore.

Jim is survived by his mother, Ida Allspaugh, a longtime Scranton resident who now resides in Shannondell Retirement Community, Audubon, PA. In addition, he is survived by a sister Barbara Thomas of King of Prussia, PA, a sister Virginia Hansen of Omaha, NE and many nieces and nephews, as well as an extended family of many friends in the Concord, MA area.

A memorial service will be held near Audubon, PA and interment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, Dunmore.

Gary J. Spoonhower, age 65, of Springbrook Township passed away on Sunday April 14 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Lanesboro, PA to Mona and the late Gerald K. Spoonhower. His wife of 39 years is the former Helen Morris. He was a graduate of North Pocono High School, attended East Stroudsburg University, and was a member of the National Guard. He retired from Exxon Corporation and was later employed by Petroleum Products Corporation, Venezia Trucking, and Road Scholar Transport before retiring in May 2012.

Gary lived his life with immense love for his family and friends, whom he always put before himself. He was a sensitive man, who would shed a tear every time his daughter’s would leave after coming home to visit on the weekends. He never had a problem driving his girls around and picking them up from every dance class, sporting event, and sitting through countless dance recitals. He was known for his positive and carefree attitude and you could normally find him with a great smile, whistling his favorite tune around the garage. Even during his ten month illness, he managed to keep an enduring smile on his face and made a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Gary and his family cherished their summers at Lake Wallenpaupak, where he loved fishing off of his boat and spending time with his “lake friends”. During the winter, he enjoyed hunting and taking ski trips with his girls. Being an avid Philadelphia sports fan, Gary never passed up an opportunity to see an Eagles or Phillies game while visiting his daughters and sons-in-laws in Philadelphia. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially his hunting and fishing buddies and most of all his family who meant the world to him. In the words of his son-in-law, he was a saint, a legend, and a best friend.

Gary is survived by a brother, Gerald “Sliv” Spoonhower and Tracey Whitford, of Springbrook Twp., three daughters; Danielle and husband Michael Alba of Norristown, PA, Noel and husband Robert Boehm, of Aldan, PA, Heather Spoonhower and Michael Bisignani of Hickory, NC. Also surviving are two grandchildren; Graycen and Reagan Alba.

Darlene J. Fruehan of Madison Twp., PA died Sunday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton following a lengthy illness. She is the wife of Paul G. Fruehan. The couple celebrated 44 years of marriage on November 16, 2012. Born in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Jean (Kakareka) Koytek.

Darlene was a 1964 graduate of North Pocono High School. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow. Darlene was self employed as a beautician/ hair stylist for many years.

John R. White, 80, of Scranton died Saturday evening in Geisinger CMC after an illness. His wife is the former Mary J. Gouveia. Born September 25, 1932 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late John R. and Alice (Cuthertson) White.

John attended the Scranton schools, and was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War with the 522nd Armored Engineering Corps. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Asplundh Tree Service and Marywood University . Jack was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a member of the Polish Club in Scranton. He was always the life of the party and an avid Fisherman and Hunter who enjoyed nature and being outdoors.

Barbara L. Miller, 54, of Throop died Friday afternoon at her home following a brief illness. She is the widow of Gary J. Miller. Born February 8, 1959 in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Louise (Skelston) Sherman.

Barbara was employed for many years as a driver with US Express and also worked as a nurses assistant. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Scranton; and was a social member of the Troop VFW.

Thomas P. McDonnell Jr. 50 of Throop, PA died Thursday in Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born July 7, 1962 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Thomas P. McDonnell Sr. and Joan (Doyle) McDonnell . He was a 1980 graduate of Dunmore High School.

Tom lived life to the fullest enjoying the simplest things. He was cherished by his sisters, and loved by his friends and family, and adored by everyone who knew him. His smile was infectious, and his kindness was never ending.

Nancy Ackroyd, 70, of Scranton died Wednesday Morning at Regional Hospital following an illness. She is the wife of Paul J. Ackroyd. The couple would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 29, 2013. Born February 24,1943, she is the daughter of the late Marjorie and Clifford Sherbourne.

Nancy was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and worked as a beautician for many years. Most recently, she was employed by Book Swap in the Keyser-Oak Plaza. Nancy was a member of St. Paul's Parish in Scranton.

Nancy was a loving wife,mother and Grammy to Brayden, the light of her life. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff in the Intensive Care Unit at Regional Hospital for their wonderful care.

Gretrude raised her family in Wilkes-Barre prior to moving to Philadelphia in 1950. She was employed by the Colonnade Restaurant in Philadelphia and worked as a Nurses Aid at Nazareth Hospital. She was a former member of St. Boniface Church in Wilkes-Barre, and was currently a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church of Moscow, PA.

George E. Heid Jr., 64, of Hollisterville, died Sunday morning at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore after an illness. His wife is Leslie Jenny Gevaras Heid.

Born in Peckville, son of Eleanor Rutkosky Heid, Archbald, and the late George E. Heid, he was raised in Archbald and attended Archbald High School. George was a Marine Corps veteran and, before retirement, he was employed as a truck driver for 39 years. George was a member of the Hricak-McAndrew American Legion Post 869, Archbald, a member and sergeant-at-arms of the Society of American Magicians 160 and a charter member of the Powdered Keggers Sportsman Club. George was most recently known as Magic Grandpa and Honesdale Santa.

George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He adored his grandchildren and was an avid hunter. He was happiest when doing magic, making balloon figures or playing Santa.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice Community Care for their exceptional care.

Theresa M. Horvath, 49, of Scranton died Friday at Geisinger- Community Medical Center shortly after admission. She is the widow of Keith Horvath Sr. who died December 22, 2010. Born July 17, 1963 in Scranton, PA she is the daughter of Marie (Artley) Honick of Scranton and the late Richard Honick. She was educated in the Scranton schools and was employed as a private caregiver.

Theresa attended Trinity Baptist Church in Scranton, PA.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her son: Keith Horvath and wife Debra of Scranton, PA; and her daughter Savannah H. James R. Klotz Sr. , 57, of Moscow died Thursday at Geisinger- Community Medical Center in Scranton following an illness. His wife of 36 years is the former Marilyn Burns. Born March 25, 1956 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Violet (Smith) Klotz Davenport.

Jim was a 1974 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. For 26 years, he was employed by Verto Cable Company, and had many great friendships with the Verto crew. Jim will be remembered for his great sense of humor and love of a good practical joke. He loved music, fishing and watching NFL football, especially the Raiders. He will be fondly remembered by his oldest friends known as the "Tery Crew".

Jim was a member of the Maple Lake United Methodist Church in Springbrook Twp.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son and best friend, James R. Klotz Jr. and wife Julie (Shaffer) Klotz of Moscow, PA, his daughter: Catherine Klotz of Dunmore, PA; (3) grandchildren: Adrianna, Katelyn, and James R. Klotz III; (1) brother: John Klotz of Colorado; and loving aunts, uncles and cousins, (2) nephews, brother and sister In laws.

David J. Revilak, 69, died Wednesday evening at his home in Madison Township, PA. David was born June 26, 1943 and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. The son of Helen A. (Rusenko) Revilak and the late Anthony J. Revilak, David graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Pittsburgh, PA and from College Misericordia where he earned a degree in Radiology Technology.

David was a decorated Marine Corps veteran who served in the Vietnam war. He also served in the National Guard, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Revilak and wife Theresa of Scranton, PA; Stephen Revilak and partner Julie Rioux of Arlington, MA; (1) daughter: Tomico Revilak of Pittsburgh, PA; (1) brother: Stephen A. Irene D. Minella, 84, a resident of the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor and formerly of Old Forge, PA died March 21, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Born September 29, 1928 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Adolph and Stella Sack.

Irene was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Scranton.

Joseph L. Depoley, Scranton, died peacefully Wednesday morning at home. His wife is the former Christine Chorba. The couple had been married since Jan. 17, 1966. Born March 5, 1944, in Archbald, son of the late Joseph and Antoinette Verduce Depoley, he was formerly employed at the Haddon Craftsmen Inc. for 30 years. He was also formerly employed at Scranton Lace for three years before his retirement.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who especially loved his one and only grandchild, Sarah.

Also surviving are two daughters, Donna Depoley; and Joanne Depoley; and two sons, Richard Depoley and John Depoley, all of Scranton; and a granddaughter, Sarah Depoley.

Hilda M. Cooper, 87, of Scranton died Sunday at Regional Hospital following an illness. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late William and Alice Merkel, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Bernie Tomcho.

She is survived by a daughter, Celeste Piotrowski and her husband, Thad, a daughter Laura Twiss, and her husband David, and a daughter Linda Cox and her husband George, five grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the Green Ridge Assembly of God, where she served faithfully in many volunteer services. She will be remembered most for her warm greetings and friendly smile as she greeted people when they arrived for Sunday services. Her faith in Jesus Christ was forefront in her life, and how she lived it out was a great inspiration to many in her church and community. She was a vibrant woman who lived each day to its fullest and attributed her sharp mind to her love of crossword puzzles.

William F. Bailey Sr., 98 of Scranton died Saturday at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton following a brief illness. His wife Clare A. (Wanda) Bailey died July 20, 2005. Born October 20, 1914 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Lee G. and Elizabeth (Rollands) Bailey.

Bill was educated in the Scranton schools and was a US Army World War II veteran serving with the Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 40 years as Superintendent with the H.B. Sproul Construction Company of Clarks Summit, PA.

Bill was a longtime member of the the Church of the Good Shepherd in Scranton.

William H. Greggs, 92, of Allied Terrace in Scranton, formerly of Green Ridge, died Friday evening at home. His wife of 66 years is the former Ann Steever. Bill was born September 27, 1920 in Scranton, PA and is the son of the late William R. and Lottie (Woodvine) Greggs.

Bill was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran, serving from 1942 until 1946 in the Philippines and the South Pacific theatre of war.

Prior to his retirement in 1977, he was the operator of Greggs Motor Lines of Scranton. Bill was a life-long member of Providence United Methodist Church and served as a church trustee and choir member for many years. He was currently a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton. He was active with Boy Scouts Troop # 8 of Scranton and was a long time Board member for the Lake Ariel Landowners.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son: William J. Catherine E. Spitale, 89, of Tobyhanna passed away Sunday evening at St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home in Elmhurst Twp. with her daughter Susan at her side. She is the widow of James N. Spitale who passed away January 28, 1987. Born in Pottsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Mary (Burrier) Stephenson.

Catherine was Judge of Elections in Coolbaugh Twp. for more than 40 years, and was honored by the League of Woman Voters of Monroe County with the "Making Democracy Work" award in June, 2010.

Catherine was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church of Tobyhanna, PA, and the St. Ann's Women's Guild.

Catherine is survived by a son: Edward Davenport and wife Lisa of Kingman, AZ; a daughter: Susan A. Heisler and husband Ronald and grandsons, James and Joseph Heisler of Blakeslee, PA.

Shirley M. Ondrick, 84, of Mobile, Alabama passed away on Tuesday evening after a brief illness. She was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on November 14, 1928 to the late Louis N. and Gertrude M. (Cook) Pearson.

Shirley graduated from Mansfield College and Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. Her career as a registered nurse spanned many years and included private duty, hospital nursing, nurse for Dr. Joseph Soma, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health as a public health nurse in Lackawanna County.

After her retirement, she was blessed with many wonderful years to enjoy her many hobbies and activities. Shirley was a talented artist and especially liked drawing and oil painting. She was also an avid traveller and was able to travel to many parts of the world. Her favorite place was Botswana and the "big game"drives ! She also loved cats and dogs, meeting new people, and spending time with her friends. She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Scranton.

In 2008, she relocated to Mobile to be closer to her daughter, Nancy. She enjoyed the mild winters and year round yard sales, but she still spent her summers in Pennsylvania at Gouldsboro Lake. In Mobile, she was a member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church.

Shirley touched many lives in her career as a nurse, but most of all she will be remembered a wonderful mother and dear friend to many people.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy M. Dohn and husband Dr. Henry H. Dohn of Gulf Breeze, Florida; brother, Robert S. Pearson and wife Josephine of Scranton; sister-in-law Gloria Pearson of Scranton; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and granddogs Chobe and Lassie.

She was preceded in death by her brother Willard Pearson in 2000.

John E. Martin of Throop died Wednesday morning at his home following an illness. Born in Throop,PA, he is the son of the late Caleb and Alverna (Miller) Martin.

John was employed by BAE Systems and was a former member of Throop United Methodist Church. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed spending time with nephews TJ, Justin, Joey, Danny, Bobby, Kenny and his cousin Gary.

Surviving are three sisters; Audrey Wierzinski, Scranton PA; Alvera Goralski, Hamlin, PA; and Ruth Brzenski, Scranton PA. Two brothers; James Martin, Throop PA;Thomas Martin, Taylor PA. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elisabeth M. Tenelly, 89, of Covington Twp. and a resident at Linwood Nursing Home died Saturday following a brief illness. She is the widow of Cosmo P. Tenelly who died June 16, 1988. Born March 17, 1923 in Guttentag, Upper Silesia, Germany, she is the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Marie (Schwierczok) Gawron.

Prior to her retirement, Elisabeth was employed at Tobyhanna Army Depot in the commissary department. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow.

Elisabeth enjoyed spending time on her porch, and loved her cats Whiskey and Rye very much. Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughter Adrianna.

Elisabeth's family would like to extend thanks to the Linwood Nursing Home for their excellent facility, especially to Nicole, Anna, Trumayne and Donna for their exceptional care and compassion.

Donald S. Otis, 73, of Gouldsboro, Coolbaugh Township, died Sunday, February 24th in Kindred Hospital Wyoming Valley following a two month illness. His wife of 44 years is Dorothy K. Hunsinger. Born June 11, 1939 in Utica, NY, he is the son of the late John and Catherine (Overball) Otis.

Donald was an Air Force veteran, and prior to his retirement was employed in the Sheet Metal Repair shops at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a member of the Wall-Sebring American Legion post # 274 of Gouldsboro. He was of the Episcopal faith.

Robert W. Stover Jr., 52, of Denver, Colorado died Saturday. Born November 2, 1960 in Kingston, PA, he is the son of Robert W. Stover of Falls, PA and Beryle (Cordes) Stover of Pittston, PA.

Robert was a 1978 graduate of West Side Vocational Technical High School and was a US Army veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne Division from 1980 to 1984. He was a member of the Special Forces Rangers and participated in the rescue mission of the captive hostages during the Iran Hostage Crisis in 1980.

Robert was employed as a Industrial Welder in Colorado for many years. He was a member of the Falls United Methodist Church.

Phyllis was previously employed by Anemostat Sheet Metal, Inc. of Scranton for many years. She was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association # 44 of Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Edward H. Kundla, 52 of Gouldsboro, PA died Wednesday at his home. His wife of 23 years is the former Mina C. Fritz. Born July 1, 1960 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of Edward J. Kundla of Jefferson Twp. and Margaret "Peggy" (Bird) Gellesky of Madison Twp.

Edward was a graduate of North Pocono High School and was a member of American Legion Post # 274 of Gouldsboro. He was employed for many years by Price Chopper, Inc. in their meat department, and was previously employed by Schiff's Cash and Carry of Scranton. He was presently self employed as an Independent Business Retailer.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are (2) daughters: Carissa Kraszewski and husband Kyle of Florida, and Somer L. Kundla – at home; (1) sister: Janet M. Algar and husband Thomas of Madison Twp.; (2) brothers: William J. Kundla and wife Iris of Newfoundland, PA, and Jeffrey W. Kundla and wife Lynette of Mt Cobb, PA; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his step-father: Robert Gellesky of Madison Twp.

Ruth Dean, 79 , a resident at Golden Living Center in Scranton died Monday afternoon following a lengthy illness. She is the widow of Harry Dean who died in 1996. Born December 10, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, she is the daughter of the late Albert and Ruth Lavin.

Ruth was raised and educated in Ozone Park, NY, and has resided in Scranton since 1984. Ruth was employed by A & P Grocery Stores for several years.

Surviving are (2) sons: Edward Dean and wife Rosemary of Highland Park, NY, and Daniel Dean and wife Jennie of Broadheadsville, PA; (4) grandchildren: Edward Dean Jr., Michael Dean, Daniel Dean Jr. and David Dean. She is also survived by her good friend and caregiver Eugene Bacorn of Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by her sister: Claire Carpinone; and (2) brothers: Albert and Martin Lavin.

Mary M. Fletcher, 97, of Scranton died Monday afternoon in Hospice Community Care in Dunmore following an illness. She is the widow of Leonard "Butch" Fletcher. Born February 2, 1916 in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Albert and Hannah J. (Platt) Schoonover.

Mary was educated in the Scranton schools and prior to her retirement she was employed by the Manhattan Shirt Company of Scranton. She was a long time member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Scranton. Mary was an avid quilter, and was involved with "My Brother's Keeper Quilt Group" through the Lake Winola United Methodist Church for many years. Every member of her family graciously received a heirloom quilt made by her loving hands.

Surviving are (2) daughters: Juanita F. Locker and husband Rev. William Locker of Stuart, FL, and Marlene Locker and husband Paul Locker of Scranton; (1) son: Dennis D. Peggy Verity, 81, of Clarks Summit died Sunday morning in Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton following an illness. Born December 1, 1931 in Bettie, NC, she is the daughter of the late Sterling and Myrtle (Golden) Arthur.

Peggy was a graduate of Smyrna High School in Smyrna, NC. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, she resided in Long Island, NY and was employed by the Hazeltine Electronics Corporation in Riverhead, NY.

Douglas W. Goodall, 61 of Dunmore died Thursday at his home. Born June 21, 1951 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Irvine and Hilda (Thompson) Goodall. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School.

Douglas was a Navy veteran serving from 1970 to 1976, and received the combat action ribbon, the Vietnam service medal and the Vietnam Campaign medal . Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Doug was an avid bowler and was involved with the Green Ridge Bowling League for many years and was a member of the American Legion post # 908 of Scranton.

Ellsworth J. Scott, 79 of Clifton Township died Monday afternoon at Community Medical Center in Scranton after being stricken ill at his home. His wife is the former Ruth A. Stout. The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage on May 29, 2012. Born March 4, 1933 in Gouldsboro, PA, he was the son of the late Emory and Dorthea (Beavers) Scott. He was educated in the Covington Twp. schools and was an Army veteran serving from 1953 till 1956.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Roadway Transportation of Tannersville, PA. He had been previously employed by Ronson Corp. of Stroudsburg, PA for many years.

Ethel M. Anderson, 81 of Dickson City and formerly of Belleville, NJ died Saturday morning at Abington Manor in Clarks Summit following an illness. She is the widow of Russell R. Anderson who died in 1988. Born November 9, 1931 in Pittston, PA, she is the daughter of the late John H. and Jane (Eustice) McDonald. She was a graduate of Pittston High School.

Prior to her retirement she was employed by Wallace & Tiernan, Inc. of Belleville, NJ as an Instrument Technician. Ethel was also co-owner and operator of the Prince Luncheonette and the Forest Hill Bottle Shop of Belleville, NJ for many years.

Jean Doris Denniston, a resident of St. Mary's Villa in Elmhurst Twp. died Tuesday morning following an illness. Born February 10, 1925 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Taylor) Denniston.

Jean was a 1943 graduate of Dunmore High School and a graduate of Hunter College in New York. Jean was a Navy veteran serving during World War II. Jean loved the outdoors and resided most of her life in the Catskill Mountain Resorts and the Pocono Mountain Resorts. Prior to living at St. Mary's Villa, she lived in Luzerne Towers for 15 years.

Surviving are (2) brothers: Thomas McCarthy of Dunmore, PA, and William McCarthy of Nicholson, PA and her sister Mary Burrows of Manassas, VA; and nieces and nephews.

Thomas Sekely, 86 of Thornhurst and formerly of Moscow died Sunday morning at his home. Born December 29, 1926 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late John and Lauretta (Wolk) Sekely.

Tom worked as a diary farmer most of his life, and prior to retirement he was employed as a bus driver for the North Pocono School District and the N.E.I.U. Tom loved playing cards at the North Pocono Senior Center. He enjoyed cooking, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tom excelled at bowling and won many trophies while involved with the Elmhurst Bowling League. Tom was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Tom was a very kind man who befriended everyone who crossed his path. He will be deeply missed by friends and family who loved him dearly.

Surviving are (2) sisters: Loretta Ahlborn of Thornhurst and Pauline Henneforth and husband Ralph of Hollisterville; (3) brothers: John Sekely and wife Teresa of NJ and Thornhurst, Frederick Sekely and wife Shirley of Virginia and Joseph Sekely and wife Virginia of Moscow; several nieces and nephews.

Irene C. (Wanda) Torda, 90, a lifetime resident of the Green Ridge section of Scranton died Thursday, January 17th, at Commonwealth Hospice in Scranton following a lengthy illness. She is the widow of the Edward R. Torda who died December 21, 1995. Born in Dunmore, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Durdach) Wanda.

Irene was a graduate of Dunmore High School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at the Scranton Fabric Center and was previously employed by Sear & Roebuck & Co. and Scranton Dry Goods. Irene was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish in Scranton.

Surviving are (4) daughters: Louise Misorek, Cynthia Torda, Deborah McIlhenny and Beverly Benzeleski; (7) grandchildren; and (6) great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Bobbie Jo Giles, 31, of Scranton, died Wednesday morning at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville following a brief illness. Her husband is Nicholas Giles. Born April 5, 1981, in Scranton, daughter of Robert and Barbara Morgan Hollister of Sterling Twp., Bobbie Jo was educated in the Western Wayne School District and was employed by Gerrity's Supermarkets Inc. of Scranton.

Bobbie Jo loved her husband and two children and was passionate about her writing and photography.

"Jo, I will always love you and miss you. Taken so suddenly from us is leaving a big hole in our lives; you will be missed forever. Until we meet again our sweet angel." Love, Nick.

William G. S. "Bill" Bunevitch, 79, of Dunmore died Thursday morning at his home following an illness. His wife is the former Carole A. Noone. Born April 21, 1933 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late George and Margaret (Kupchunas) Bunevitch.

William was an Army veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the US Postal Service. He was a member of St. Paul's Church and was formerly a member of St. Joseph's Church in North Scranton.

Ruth Mercuri, 85, formerly a resident of Moscow and a member of St. Eulalia's Parish, died Thursday, January 10, 2013. She was the widow of John Mercuri, who died on January 16, 1987. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Mark and Mary Mullen, she was valedictorian at St. Mary's High School, South Side.

For most of her working life, Ruth was employed as a Federal Clerk for the Middle District Federal Court in Scranton, PA. She also worked for Aramark Food Service and was a self-employed dealer in antiquities. She was active in both the community and her parish. She served on the St. Eulalia's Parish Council and various church committees throughout her life. In the Scranton community, Ruth worked as a senior volunteer in nursing homes where she visited residents with her dog ,Samantha, a pet therapy Pug. She was a fan of local sports teams including Syracuse Orange and Red Barrons.

Ruth is survived by her brother, Joseph Mullen.

Clara Noble, 93, a resident at the Green Ridge Health Care Center in Scranton died Thursday morning following an illness. She is the widow of Clarence Noble who died in 1975. Born June 14, 1919 in Dalton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Carl Sr. and Mae (Hall) Reider.

Clara was educated in the Dalton schools and was employed in the Textile Manufacturing Industry for many years. She was a member of the Scranton Senior Center and was a former member of the Hyde Park Presbyterian Church.

Clara loved to crochet, and was an avid Bingo player. Clara's family would like to thank the staff and management at the Green Ridge Health Care Center and to Celtic Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.

Richard J Matthews II of Del Ray Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on January 5, 2013. Richard was born in Scranton on April 11, 1927 and lived for 35 years in Dalton, PA. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sally Griffith.

Richard was a graduate of Central High School, received a Pharmacist Degree from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and earned a Masters and PH.D Degrees at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia Pa. Richard also served in the United States Army.

Richard was a member on the Penn State Board, Worthington Scranton Campus, the Board of CMC, A Trustee and Elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Battle of Normandy Museum, and a member of the American Air Museum in Duxford, England. Dr. Matthews was a member of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and The American Academy of Dermatology. Richard’s career began at the Up John Company in Kalamazoo Michigan as a pharmacologist. Subsequently, Richard moved back to his home town and founded Pharmakon Research Laboratories International. Richard was President of Pharmakon until he sold his laboratory to Union Carbide and moved to Wyckoff, NJ with his family. He worked at Union Carbide for a few years and then moved back to Scranton to start-up Pharmakon again. Prior to retiring, he was a consultant for Christian Dior. His business was sold to DNX Corporation in 1991 and he stayed on as President and board member until 1994. After his retirement Richard developed a skin care product called Strata-C.

Richard was a passionate man who loved his family, friends, community, church and country. He was often sought out by many for advice, support and knowledge which he was always eager to offer. His sense of humor and happy spirit were very unique and one could always find him in a crowd by following his laughter. Richard's hobbies included playing his claronnet and listening to big band music. He loved working on and building electronic devices such as building his own TV, reading history books, exploring nature and visiting museums. Those who had the honor of knowing him will never forget his incredible larger than life personality and relentless optimism.

Richard is predeceased in death by his son Todd Winton and a brother Arthur.

Mary E. Becker, 90, of Big Bass Lake, Gouldsboro died Friday evening at her home following a brief battle with Stomach Cancer. She is the widow of Edward N. Becker who died July 11, 1995. Born September 30, 1922 in Hoboken, NJ, she was the daughter of the the late Harold J. and Violet (Graf) Connors. She was raised in Nutley, NJ and lived in East Orange, NJ prior to her moving to Gouldsboro in 1979.

She was a member of St. Rita's Church in Gouldsboro. Mary was devoted to St. Anthony, and was a member of the St. Anthony Guild.

Dollathy (Padfield) Barnes, 94, formerly of Oakdale, CT and Moscow, PA, wife of the late Harrison C. Barnes, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Blair Manor, Enfield, CT. She was born in Elmhurst, PA, daughter of the late James and Mary Ann (Smithard) Padfield.

Dollathy taught ceramic and pottery making out of her home for many years, and was the owner of Barnes and Wegge Five and Ten Cents store in Moscow, PA.

Dollathy is survived by her two daughters, Dollathy Kosinski and her husband Carl of Corbettsville, NY, and Deborah Rodriguez and her husband Duane of Stafford Springs, CT; four grandchildren, Carl Kosinski, Jr. and his wife Cindy, Penelope Kosinski, and Jessie and Alison Rodriguez; a great granddaughter, Brianna Kosinski; and several nieces and nephews.

Will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at 10 A.M. at the Duffy & Snowdon Funeral Home, 401 Church St., Moscow, PA.

Interment:
Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, PA.

Harold M. Thorpe, 80, of Clarks Summit, died Friday evening surrounded by his family. His wife is the former
Joan L. Robbins. The couple was blessed with 58 years of marriage. Born February 16, 1932 in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Mary Thorpe.

Harold was a 1949 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Prior to retirement, Harold was an officer at the Third National Bank & Trust Company for 44 years. He was a member of the Chinchilla United Methodist Church, where he served as organist for 50 years and held many advisory positions.

Harold served in a variety of capacities with several social, service, civic, and educational organizations. Harold was on the board at Moses Taylor Hospital, co-chairman of the United Way, and past recipient of the B' Nai B' rith Americanism Award. He was a long standing member of the Saint David's Society and the Hyde Park Masonic Lodge. He was an avid gardener and musician. He sang with the Gospelaires and recently served as the organist at the Factoryville Baptist Church. Harold especially loved spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter and four sons; Wayne Thorpe and wife Sandy of Clarks Summit, Linda Umerich and husband Dr. Michael Umerich of Clarks Summit, Kevin Thorpe and wife Amy of Charlotte, NC, Gary Thorpe and wife Kathy of Rochester Hills, MI, and Scott Thorpe and wife Kelli of Clarks Summit; (12) grandchildren: Lauren and Courtney Thorpe, Amy, Julie and Michael Umerich, Jacob and Madison Thorpe, Michelle and Taylor Thorpe, Kayla, Connor and Makenna Thorpe; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; William and David..

S. Abington Twp., PA with Rev. Tony Swartz, Pastor as officiating clergy.
